MC Construction choose Together Dementia Support as one of their Charities of the Year

Updated: 5 days ago

Earlier this year, the staff of Manchester and Cheshire Construction decided that they wanted to make a difference locally, and fundraise for two causes close to their hearts.

Together Dementia Support were delighted to be chosen alongside homelessness support charity, Salford Loaves and Fishes. MCC’s offer to raise £5,000 for Together Dementia Support couldn’t have come at a more critical time.

As our CEO Sally Ferris says:

“Despite new drug treatments, there will still be an ongoing increase in the number of people with dementia. Manchester will soon have 3,000 residents living with the disease and thousands of unpaid family carers. We know our services have a big impact on people who would otherwise be isolated and despairing but we are struggling to meet the extent of the need. TDS relies entirely on grant funding, the generosity of individuals, and our own fundraising efforts. We are really grateful for the support and encouragement of MC Construction”.

When we heard that MCC colleagues like to scale tall buildings and take on tough challenges we invited them to abseil down the Trafford Palazzo tower with the TDS team. They didn’t let us down. Our Dementia Awareness training session was well received by the MCC team. Hopefully this will lead to volunteering opportunities alongside our Together Dementia Support team.

At the beginning of Alzheimer’s Awareness month this September, MCC invited TDS carers to visit the Castlefield Viaduct. The carers discovered a nature filled oasis in the heart of the city, and learnt about how MCC led the renovations of the old railway line which was decommissioned in 1969.

MCC Chief Executive Russ Forshaw attended our recent 10th Birthday Showcase and announced that his team want to extend their support until September 2025. This is wonderful news which is very much appreciated by everyone at TDS.
