Members of Fabulous Forgetful Friends, Together Dementia Support’s peer support and influencing group, had the brilliant opportunity to talk with staff from the Memory Clinic at Wythenshawe Hospital.
We offered ideas about how dementia diagnoses could be better delivered: with someone to support you; by a professional who knows you as an individual; shown real empathy; given enough time to talk; offered hope and encouragement; with good, quick follow-up; with ongoing community support and signposting to peer support groups – such as Fabulous Forgetful Friends! We feel that it’s really important for people with dementia to have a say in how dementia care is delivered to the community.
It was a very positive meeting and we hope that we might have given food for thought. Thank you to the Memory Clinic for hosting us, and of course, thank you to the Fabulous Forgetful Friends for all your valuable ideas, time and commitment. You are making a difference!
